Joe Hancott (Year 2).
Professional Footballer at Bognor Regis Town FC.
“This course has been perfect for me, I have stretched myself academically, met some excellent people and enjoyed every workbook and webinar.
Having been nervous about coming back into education I can assure you there was no need as every aspect has been made clear on what is expected, everyone on the course wants to help each other and the staff couldn’t be more supportive.
Being a professional footballer, I knew I’d only be able to do a course if it was flexible and worked around my training and games schedule, the Applied Football Studies course does exactly that.”
Jade Moore (Year 2).
After progressing from LLS Sports Coaching Level 3 qualification Jade gained a coaching post at TAFA, Sri Lanka September 2017 - July 2020.
‘’I am enjoying the content of the units which are informing me as a coach. It’s enabling me to improve and develop my own coaching styles, working hard with the girls at the Steven Gerrard Academy. I’m also enjoying gaining knowledge of the business side of the game.
My ambition is to continue coaching ages 16+ and possibly progressing into the WSL. I would also love to gain my teaching qualification and become a coach education tutor.’’
Ryan Mason (Year 2).
Ryan was a scholar at Morecombe FC before he joined the Steven Gerrard Academy.
“This allowed me to complete my BTEC Sport Level 3 qualifications and continue to play at the highest level of football outside of the Academy system, plus the coaching here is at the same level if not better.
I then progressed onto the on-line BSc(Hons) Applied Football Studies Degree and I’m continuing to play at the highest level I can.
I’m really enjoying learning about different aspects of the game and already new doors are opening up to me. I have my coaching work underway working with youngsters in private academies and doing 1-1 sessions.
I’m looking to coach abroad to gain a further insight and if I don’t make it as a player, I see coaching as an avenue I can pursue, and this degree will be the springboard to help me climb the ladder.”
Jack Ashcroft (Year 1).
Student and Football Coach for Evolution Sports Qatar.
“Being a football coach I’ve always wanted to do a sports related degree to gain better knowledge of the industry, but also I didn’t want to leave my job as I am keen to continue to develop my experiences out on the pitch and take the opportunity to travel the world.
The Applied Football Studies course is perfect as it allows me to do combine my work here in Qatar whilst gaining my degree.”
Lauren Blackburn (Year 2).
Student of Level 3 Extended Diploma BTEC in Sport.
"I previously studied a Level 3 Extended Diploma BTEC in sport and I decided to do this course so I could carry on my education within sport and further develop my knowledge. I have enjoyed my first year on the course and the units have challenged me. This course has been perfect for me to develop myself further within all aspects of football.
The nature of this course means I am still able to play football at a high level and work too. The flexibility of this course allows me to do what I love to do whilst studying. I am undecided what I want to do in the future, but I know that I would like to work within sport. The range of units that we study on this course will help me to decide a career in the future."
